When Things Go Wrong; Isaiah 57-59

"In Isaiah 57, we learn that the people of God had taken a massive wrong turn. Evil had permeated their culture. God responds in a blunt way. He gives Isaiah a message for the people of Judah, and doesn’t mince words, doesn’t soften the blow or deal sensitively with the people. The message cuts because it was true. As humans living in the world, we know all too well that truth is the first casualty when evil begins to rise. We justify evil, overlook it, embrace it, even celebrate it. When we turn away from the LORD, we make ourselves available to evil. We allow hell to break loose in our lives both literally and metaphorically. Unfortunately, Isaiah 57 is a great passage to help us consider our present state of affairs. We are all looking for solutions to things we would call great evils, things like wars and violence. God’s salvation is the cure, but to be saved we have to repent; we have to be honest even about things we would rather justify.

Looking at chapter 60, we see the joy and glad...

Come, LORD Jesus; Isaiah 64-66
"As we read Isaiah 64, imagine the devastation that would have been felt by the small, faithful remnant of God.
