"There are prayers for specific things in the book of Psalms. Many are focused on praise, some for mourning, others cry out for help in times of trouble, but Psalm 140 is asking God for deliverance from evil. Evil is so subtle and pervasive that it is hard to catch, hard to see, and hard to track. This psalm of David, written to the Chief Musician, is a prayer
for deliverance, which means that there is usually deep sorrow or horrible circumstances surrounding this kind of music. Yet it is meaningful and directed specifically to God, and is included here for us to sing, pray, and meditate on. It seems as though everything King David went through in his life, he was lead to write a song or prayer of deep meaning and reflection, an important expression for all times. We should consider doing the same in our lives, too.
